BG Part M 8 Gang Custom Grid Switch Plate with 8x Intelligent Dual Mode Dimmers – Graphite/White

This Part M grid panel combines eight intelligent dual mode dimmers on a single graphite front plate with white control dials.

Part M of the Building Regulations requires that switches can be seen and located easily by people with impaired vision, and contrast is how that is achieved. The graphite plate stands out against a light-coloured wall and the white dials stand out against the plate. There is no visible plastic around the control dials and the screws are colour matched, so nothing interrupts the contrast. The front plate matches the power products across the Part M range.

Key Features & Specifications

Intelligent Dual Mode Dimmer Modules (x8)

  • Smooth & Silent: Provides smooth control of light levels with silent operation across eight independent channels.
  • Dual Mode: Switchable between trailing and leading edge, making it compatible with dimmable LED, halogen, and incandescent lamps.
  • Soft Start: Brings lights to the set level in approximately one second, extending lamp life.
  • Flicker Elimination: Supports lower wattage lamps to prevent flickering.
  • Overload Protection: Automatically dims or shuts off lights if the load limit is exceeded to prevent failure.
  • Control: 2-way push on/off operation with a rotary dial per dimmer.
  • Note: Please verify that all connected lamps are marked as dimmable.

Your grid switch arrives as a kit: a front plate, a metal grid frame and the switch modules you chose. Modules clip into the frame, the frame screws to the back box, and the plate fits over the top.

Safety first: Only fit this yourself if you are competent to do electrical work. Work must meet BS 7671, and some jobs (for example new circuits, or work in bathrooms) are notifiable under Part P in England and Wales. If in doubt, use a registered electrician.

  1. Switch the circuit off at the consumer unit and confirm it is dead with a voltage tester before touching any wiring.
  2. Unscrew the old switch, take a photo of the wiring and label which cable goes to which terminal.
  3. Check the back box is deep enough: at least 25 mm for switches, 35 mm for dimmers and larger plates (see the spec sheets below).
  4. Clip each module into the grid frame from the front, in the order shown on this listing, with the 'TOP' marking facing up.
  5. Wire each module: one-way uses COM and L1, two-way uses COM, L1 and L2, and an intermediate takes both pairs of strapper wires. For dimmers and 20A modules, follow BG's leaflet below.
  6. Connect the earth (green/yellow) cable to the earth terminal on the grid frame or metal plate.
  7. Screw the grid frame to the back box, then fit the front plate. Screwless plates clip over the frame.
  8. Switch the power back on and test every switch and dimmer.
